Managing our environmental impact

Pachacuti has identified the direct and indirect environmental aspects of our business activities by reviewing national and international environmental legislation, Eco-mapping our UK premises and the premises of all of our producer groups and analysing raw material flows.  The direct environmental aspects over which we have significant management control include energy and water usage, CO2 emissions from travel and shipping, waste generation and  packaging materials.  Indirect aspects of significance include product life cycle, consumer care and the activities of our producer groups.

In 2009 we switched to 100% renewable electricity and in 2010 we became one of the first UK businesses to switch to Green Gas, as well as converting all of our phone lines to the Phone Co-op.  Pachacuti has instituted a comprehensive recycling program and we reuse and recycle 98% of all packaging. We currently use cardboard which contains an average 59% recycled content and during the coming year we will source 100% recycled material.  We have installed compact fluorescent lighting throughout our offices, warehouse and shop.  For a full Environmental progress report, please see the final page of our Fair Trade and Sustainability Report.  Click here to go to our Fair Trade SFTMS page where you can download our most recent report.
